We’re all foreigners somewhere:
crossing linguistic and cultural borders through song

At the initiative of the Languages Department, from October 26 to 30, the ESCM will host its first-ever blended intensive programme, bringing together 18 students (8 pianists and 10 singers) and 11 professors from 10 different European conservatories through the Erasmus+ programme.
Over the course of 5 days dedicated to teaching the languages taught at the Escuela, plus Spanish, there will be lectures, phonetic sessions, and repertoire workshops with the students. We will also feature a Slavic languages workshop and other leisure activities. This explains the label «intensive.» It is also «blended» because since September, three virtual sessions have already been held with students and staff, adding value to teamwork and making a series of materials available to all participants to share before the start of the in-person part of the programme.
The idea of the BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) is to highlight song as a space for cultural encounter and artistic exchange. Participants will work on repertoire composed by artists in a native language other than their own, paying special attention to the phonetic and prosodic characteristics of the texts, as well as their interaction with the musical structures of the pieces. This encourages participants to reflect on language, identity, and expression through vocal performance. In a world that is falling apart, both ethically and physically, the ESCM aims to do its bit to build cultural bridges and embrace differences.
We attach a provisional programme pending further details. All programme information will be kept updated on this website.
Access to the activities is free, and anyone interested in the topic of the programme is invited to join us for this week, which we hope will be of interest to the entire educational community. The only requirement for visitors from outside the institution is that, prior to their visit, they fill out this form.
